The Book Junkie Reads . . . Interview with  . . .

How would you describe you style of writing to someone that has never read your work?

If you like character-driven stories that are also funny and something you’ve never seen before, I’m the author for you.

What mindset or routine do you feel the need to set when preparing to write (in general whether you are working on a project or just free writing)?

I have set times during the day when I write. I also need my music to write or my brain gets stupid angry, which I think is my misophonia being its usual fickle self. But the most important stage is walking my dog before. While she’s waddling along behind smelling every lump of dirt, I try to plan out the upcoming scene I have to write.

Do you have a character that you have been working on for a long time that still isn't quite ready, but fills you with excitement to work on the story?

I never feel like I know a character until I write them. I can toy with their backstories and characteristics in my head all day long. But I don’t really get them until I put them in a situation and see what happens.

Have you found yourself bonding with any particular character(s)? If so which one(s)?

I can’t reveal much as it’d be total spoilers for Claw. Let’s just say that I wound up breaking a character for more than I anticipated to the point I found I had to do a book from their POV and give them time to heal. It’s a mindset that can be very hard to leave and I feel for the character.

Can you share your next creative project(s)? If yes, can you give a few details?

I just finished the first draft on a book I had my readers help me with. All I said was that I’d be writing an M/M Hallmark Christmas romance and they came back with an antique dealer traveling to a small town where he meets a lumberjack who’s an old friend. They pick out a Christmas tree together and attend a Christmas festival.

What are some of your writing/publishing goals for this year?

After 2020 and 2021 not looking any better, I told myself it was okay if I could only get four books out. Claw is number two and I have the next two in the Coven of Desire series lined up.
